Authentic Amish Tours
If your purpose is to learn more about the Amish way of life or to follow a passion such as quilting or collecting, then a pre-arranged tour will provide you with great insight. Our tour partners will arrange for a step-on guide for motorcoach tours or for group transportation and a guide.
Either way, you’ll be shepherded through the Amish countryside where the beautiful Belgian, Percheron and Standard Bred horses are a common sight in the fields and pulling buggies. It’s quite remarkable to see the ponies and child-size buggies clustered around the Amish one-room schoolhouses dotted throughout the community.
While tour itineraries may be customized to the wishes of the guests, visitors will have a first-hand opportunity to see the craftsmanship the Amish are so well known for and to purchase Amish goods that are sought after from around the globe. Among the most popular shops to visit is the Southern Indiana Collar Shop that ships handmade horse collars and leather goods throughout the U.S., Italy, Germany and Canada. A collar press made in 1894 and other antique machinery fill the workrooms as tanned leather is cut, pressed, sewn and finished with a beautiful hand laced stitch. Vic Raber's Buggy Shop and the neighboring Wheel Works make buggies used for carriage tours in cities throughout the world. The handsome bodies and gorgeous leather interiors are reminiscent of days gone by.
Allow some time in your visit for take-home treats, homemade pies, cakes, desserts, noodles, breads, produce, plants, quilts even furniture finds its way into every conceivable nook and cranny. After you arrive back home, the sweet rolls, cookies, jellies and jams make for tasty reminders of what a good time you had.
